Another Century’s Episode 3: The Final (A.C.E. 3) Review

ace3.jpgWhat happens you mix the Nadesico, the Gecko Go, and the Exodus together? You get a five hour orgasmic journey through heaven and hell. Another Century’s Episode 3: The Final is one of hell of a game (and I’m just going to call it ACE 3 from here on out). Seriously. Let me give you one of the missions.

The Gecko Go is currently under the crust fighting the Corellians trying to get through to Eureka. Your in the Strike Freedom (with the M.E.T.E.O.R. upgrade) with King Gainer and Justice (also with the M.E.T.E.O.R. upgrade). The Corellians are attacking from every angle and the Gecko Go can not fall. You blast and blast and blast and blast and you run out of ammo and use the ultimate attack. Everything around you is destroyed but they keep coming. You jettison the meteor unit and start using up your basic ammo. The Gecko Go is sustaining damage still.

It finally makes it to its destination and you’re doing alright health wise. That’s when theEND arrives and oh god you fight it while it’s going all insane on you and the voice actors are shouting at you. You finally defeat it, Renton saves Eureka, and the world is at peace.

That’s just one mission, mind you. Nothing like one mission where the Exodus (King Gainer), the Nadesico (Nadesico), and the Gecko Go (Eureka 7) are trying to take out this one area that is defended by these shields. You have to clear a path for both of them and you can do it as Master Asia or Akito or King Gainer or oh man it just keeps going on.

The music is pulled from the anime themselves and I’ve already mentioned the three big ones and of course there is Gundam and Macross. Actually there is: Overman King Gainer, After War Gundam X, Mobile Suit Gundam, Mobile Suit Gundam, Mobile Suit Gundam SEED, Eureka Seven, Turn A Gundam, Geterr Robo Armageddon, Macross Plus, Metal Armor Dragonar, Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack, Mobile Fighter G Gundam, Martain Successor Nadesico, Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz, Aura Battler Dunbine, The Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Brain Powered, Wings of Rean, and of course A.C.E. Originals in this game.

If you didn’t just cry some manly tears at how awesome it is for Char and Master Asia to kick ass then well, you’re not one for the burning.

Honestly the gameplay isn’t fantastic. You’ve got about three normal attacks (Triangle, Square, and Circle) which are usually your blaster, your sword, and a special attack. Then you have the R1 button and about three to five more attacks that really fit the mecha. For instance King Gainer can use his overskill to freeze enemies or slow time. Outside of the weapons you can do some dodge attacks and fly around and stuff.

Zetsubou Sensei Parodies (Code Geass, GGG, etc.)

There are quite a few parodies being produced and uploaded to nicovideo (then being reuploaded to YouTube) that I think are quite hilarious. After the jump is a few of them to help keep from computers exploding from four YouTube links. Hahaha.

Gurren Lagann Episode 25 Preview / Spoilers / Review

Gurren Lagann Episode 25 just aired and I have to say the episode was so fantastic that not even Diebuster or Gunbuster or hell Dancouga can touch Gurren Lagann anymore. GaoGaiGar may stand a chance still if the ending doesn’t turn out to be any good but it is looking like it wont have a chance.

As a spoilerless review I will just say 15 manly burning passion robots out of 5. That awesome.

Spoilers/Preview after the jump.

Gurren Lagann Episode 24 - You get to burning, or you wait for a second season… maybe?

Episode 24 has been aired and subbed by either ADTRW or BSS by now. If you haven’t see it, get out there and get it. Seriously, Gurren Lagann 24 is amazing and there is little to no reason to not watch it.

That said, the following will contain spoilers. Read more after the jump.

Gundam 00 Takes a Break - Time Slot for Code Geass?

Sunrise is doing both Gundam 00 and the second season of Code Geass but we do know that CG has been moved to next year in place of Gundam 00. It’s known that Gundam 00 will be taking a break halfway through its airing but we don’t know why or what for. Current rumors give 26 episodes of Gundam 00, 26 episodes of Code Geass, then the last 26 episodes of Gundam 00.

If that’s true then Gundam 00 will not finish for a year and a half while Code Geass will still be half a year off from Gundam 00’s original airing meaning spring. It makes sense giving that sunrise doesn’t want their two main franchises going at one another during the airings.

We’ll have to wait and see for more information but the only concern is: will Gundam 00 be good enough that you won’t mind the wait?

Gurren Lagan Episode 24 Preview

Sayanora Zetsubou Sensei - The Curse of Shinbo

Hailed as the revenge of Shinbo, the mind behind Pani Poni Dash and the new Negima?! series, Sayanora Zetsubou Sensei (or Goodbye, Despair Teacher for the translation or さよなら 絶望先生 in Japanese) is another great series in his styling. However, once again, his curse falls upon yet another series. A.F.K fansubs who had been subbing the series has paused it and put it on the back burner while they finish the otaku driven Lucky Star.

Now, Pani Poni Dash took forever to get subbed and the final episodes which were subbed by GG in the underground were slowly released and very few people even knew about them. Negima?! wasn’t even finished by a fansub group yet and it came out a year or so ago. Will Despair Teacher get the same treatment? Hopefully not, but there is a good reason should it not.

The humor in these type of shows are usually driven only towards the most diehard gaijin otaku. Meaning, of course, that by not living in Japan you usually won’t “get” most of the humor. Of course, Despair Teacher is humorous by itself unlike Pani Poni Dash which needed explanations for everything. Still, there isn’t that big of an audience. Fansubbers are known for only wanting to pickup series they know will bring them users to their irc channel.

Hopefully though A.F.K. will pick this fantastic series back up when they get ahead enough with Lucky Star. Until then though, we can only hope Shinbo’s curse doesn’t get the best of this series.

Gurren Lagann Episode 23 Preview
