Star Wars: The Old Republic fans who ordered from Amazon can rejoice. If you order soon (while it qualifies for launch date shipping, which is free with prime) then you’ll get it a day before launch. That way you won’t have any downtime when the game launches at midnight on the 20th. Players were up in arms over if they were going to be able to play that morning, since a lot of shipments come in the afternoon and many players of SWTOR are even taking the day off to play – combined with the Early Access, you could see why players would want to play ASAP.
Those who ordered on Origin, EA’s competitor to Steam, will get their keys instantly and other retailers are trying to get shipments out as early as possible (while some are probably going to follow their normal shipping routine!). The best way to get SWTOR, IMO is either through Origin or over at Amazon if you want a retail copy.
The way it’ll work is that Amazon will start shipping copies out on the 15th scheduled to get to your house on the 19th (that’s Monday) while the official launch is on the 20th, Tuesday. So your copy will arrive a day early so you can add your code and be good to go once the servers come up for a quick maintenance on the 20th.
It’s funny how preorders work now. Before, in the days of ‘ol, we used to loathe preordering, but now not preordering fast enough is punished and we rush on day one to pick up any game that we might want in order to make sure we can get into the betas / get our copies on launch day. As a note, if you preorder and do not get any of the collector’s edition that the ONLY reward you’ll get is the yellowish lightsaber crystal.
Among other news in the SWTOR world, players en masse are begging BioWare for an addon similar to Recount (since SWTOR doesn’t allow addons) so that players can test their damage. Nothing from Bioware on that yet. Today’s wave of beta invites is over, ending invites for most of September now.
