Code Geass episode 23 was subbed earlier by Your-Mom, although I had to let the shear excitement of how awesome it was. I just.. Anyway download the episode and watch. If you really are curious to how the episode turns out and my opinions, then read on.
Obviously, we’re in the era of after spring break tests and mid-terms. Anime has been really slow on being subbed on less then par series and we’re about to fully enter the spring series like Nanoha and the likes. Episode 22 of Geass pretty much decked everyone and 23 is to mop up the aftermath.
Basically, what happens is rare in anime. Euphie, a main character, who is not only in the op but also has an episode dedicated to her love, is now dead. This is so rare in anime that, I’m speechless. When episode 22 came out, forums around the ‘net started posting ideas on how she’d be cured of Lelouch’s orders but everyone knew deep down that they went ahead and did it. The unthinkable, killing off a main character.
Now that 23 has aired, we know for sure she is gone. What a blast it was, perfect in every sense. Suzaku watching as his best friend killed the women he loved while she was drenched in the blood of the Japanese people. Amazing.
Afterwards, which was mostly talk, was quite interesting. We discover that Nunally is not going to approve of Lelouch murdering what I can only assume is their sister or of some relation. Then it moves on to the rebellion. Lelouch and the Order of the Black Knights marching on Tokyo to form THE UNITED STATES OF JAPAN.
That’s comedy enough, I suppose. But anyway, the dialog between Lelouch and Suzaku was awesome. While we were down a main character, we gained two. V.V. the mystery counterpart to C.C. and the samurai princess, which has some relation to Suzaku. I do not approve of it being this far in the series introducing us to new characters.
So, highlights of the episode:
- Killing off a main character in an emotionally tugging and well done scene.
- Euphie no longer being annoying and Lacus like to ruin the BURNING JUSTICE of the show.
- Lelouch’s plans going into full work.
- Orange-kun returning as a ROBOT.
The only downside is, well, the two mystery characters this late in the first season. Come on! Oh, and the fact it could be a week to several months before the next episode. Argh!
Well, overall, I think these last two episodes have really done a lot to make Geass one of the best mecha shows in recent years. I’m surprised. If I could rate this on a scale, it’d get max points - .01 for the mystery character thing.
