Hayate no Gotoku (or literally Hayate the Combat Butler or in moon language ハヤテのごとく!) is a brand new anime with Rie Kugimiya as the VA for Nagi Sanzenin or the female lead. What does this mean? Well, we pretty much have Shakugan no Shana version three. Zero no Tsukaima was considered by many to the second Shana as it’s a slice of life anime with the same VA doing the same style voice. This one will probably be alittle bit more interesting then ZnT and Shana.
So, let’s establish the facts. Keiichiro Kawaguchi is the director, who did Ginban Kaleidoscope, Great Teacher Onizuka, and Getsumen To Heiki Mina. All four of these were VERY good animes and all of them were kind of slice of life with some action put in here and there. We’ve got Rie Tanaka of Gundam fame as a maid (a kind of off cast character). My favorite, Norio Wakamoto is the kind of announcer who is also MECHAZAWA from Cromartie High School.
The all star cast is already lined up. What else does Hayate have to pull out for us? Outside of the HD raws available for us NA viewers… a lot! It’s got so far a pretty good plot, Shana’s voice, and a cast of other VA’s who are just absolutely fantastic.
Anytime you mention a slice of life with action I’m on board. That’s exactly what this is. Hayate is a “combat butler” but also Nagi’s love interest. This creates the same thing that was in Shana/ZnT pretty much except the plot is much better. She’s super rich, he’s super poor and there is a ton of comedy.
Comedy is what can make or break a slice of life for me. There is a lot of good times/funny moments. There is a lot of interesting things going on as well. I’m just absolutely in love with this series! The first episode has him becoming her butler, establishing what the anime is about, and well other things. It’s not slow but rather fast paced. The plot is simple and goes right to the point and it establishes that she’s in love with him and he isn’t exactly in love with her (Shana/ZnT anyone AGAIN).
He is “plot armor” skilled. Meaning that he gets on a bike and catches a car. This is just so zany that it shows that the anime isn’t taking itself seriously. Meaning lots of good times to be had. A fun cast, a small but interesting plot, and comedy. Man.
I give this episode an A+. Just by the fact that I was hooked after the first episode. The only other series this season so far that has got an A+ is Teppen. Of course if we were adding levels of pluses Teppen would get A+++++++ making it better. But that’s too much.
So if you haven’t already, get to downloading. It’s really good.
