So much anime this season, no screenshots for this one but you should be watching it anyway. In episode two of Hayate no Gotoku is of course available here. It’s without a doubt a VERY good episode and continues the epic saga of Hayate and his bid for freedom. Last time we left off Hayate used his PLOT DEVICE to catch a car in an attempt to rescue Shana I mean Nagi. She proclaimed that he would be his butler. Episode two continued from the point of him recovering from his injuries.
Overall the episode was fantastic. Not only did we get character development (Nagi is in love with Hayate for sure and Hayate is kind of clueless but not all the way) but we also got a few MASSIVE plot points taken care of. Which is kind of unusual.
The first plot point is the mafia coming after him for the money. This was resolved and surprisingly enough very quickly. I figured the mafia would be a running gag or some way for Nagi to hold leverage over Hayate. Instead she paid off his debt then told him he didn’t have to work the debt off. We can only assume from here that his debt won’t be a MASSIVE issue. It may come up in the sense like in ZnT where she was like “YOU ARE MY FAMILIAR DO WHAT I SAY” and Hayate is like -.- yes.
The other plot point was that this show is indeed COMEDY. This means that we won’t really have that much to worry about entertainment wise. It isn’t going to be Shana where it’s serious about combat or ZnT where it’s serious about the slice of life. This one seems to be approaching the comedy genre. Hopefully there will be a lot done with that.
Overall this episode would get an A and if it was out on DVD here in the states I’d probably buy it. Episode 3 was just released as I type this (lol good job). Here is hoping it’s just as good!
