“Level Up!” Guide / Walkthrough (Kongregate Achievements)

Oh boy, this is a game I do not like at all. Why? Because it’s another one of those kind of arty games that involve some kind of new idea that ends up being frustrating which justifies it as being cool. Well, to the game.

The premise is simple. You have until the end of the day (which is determined by your learning skill) to level up jumping, running, collection, healing, and fortitude. All of them are self explanatory. Fortitude is from being hit and healing is from regeneration.

The world is rather small to. There is the area in the south that involves lava and the area above that leads to a sky city. The sky city will be your main source of skills. There is also a city of rabbits in the lava area. All areas are fairly easy to get to and doesn’t need a lot of work.

To beat the game you have to get all five stats maxed and then visit the computer. The computer is on the way up and is unlocked with gems. If you fail to “win” the game you’ll have to fight your shadow. If you lose then you’ll find yourself back into the world with all of your skills set at 0 (except the ones you buy). If you win then you can play and never have your skills reset (basically giving you a free way to win). The shadow will come back, again, though even if you win.

Each time you lose you get an additional hour in your day, although I don’t know to what limit (I think by the 5th time you get 12 full game hours or 12 irl minutes), however once you have enough gems and all of the skills plus a ton of time you can easily beat the shadow by always staying hit and regenerating your health back quickly with max health.

Anyway on to the achievements:

Gem Collector Badge: Just collect 100 gems.

Tag all 10 Mailboxes: Do a loop around the world (either start on the right or left side) and you’ll hit all 10.

Complete Your Adventure: Easy way is just to lose the shadow and spend every day getting skills like double jump, hardy, etc. Then either beat the shadow or just spend all day getting hit, running, jumping, and collecting to max your skills out and talk to the computer. Hard way is to beat the shadow, then level everything up at your leisure.

Obsessive Badge: Beat your shadow and then get hit by every enemy, get every gem, turn on the water main, and explore everything. Rather simple since there isn’t a lot. JayIsGames has a complete codex list here if you’re missing something. Once you have all the mail boxes you’ll pretty much have most of the gems and gotten hit by everything.

Anyway, the game is pretty lame and a non-game (since you can’t lose and you’ll always be grinding up towards an eventual finish). Oh, and don’t bother with the challenges. They’re lame. Buy your skills from the guys in the tower with computer faces.

You can buy more health from the boy for 50 gems each. Dash lets you dash and double jump lets you well, double jump. Regen is key, it lets you regenerate always. Hardy is well, duh, makes you more hardy. Radar shows where you are.

Beating the Shadow:

Why not, here is an easy way to do it. You can just dash around beating into the walls and knocking yourself out in order to regen the health you lose. While stunned you’re invincible and the shadow will just beat itself into the ground. You can also just dodge around while maxed out with all the skills and a ton of health and fight it that way. It needs to hurt itself to beat itself.

Well, that’s about it. Gather Up! the “sequel” or “prequel” actually looks fun, interesting, and promising. Since it looks to be, you know, a game.
