Click here to download the raw for episode 11 (raw as in straight from Japan without subs meaning no translation). What’s cool about raws, especially Zero-Raws (whenever they’re good rips), is that you can use the soft subs from GG to see the episode seconds after GG releases it instead of waiting in an endless bot queue or a slow torrent that has hours to go. The directions are as follows.

Download the raw and make sure it’s a good one. Zero-Raws generally will provide the best and most GG compliant however they are not always (anything with commercials is bad – real bad, you’ll have to retime the subs after each commercial break (there are 2) and that goes beyond the scope of this guide.) The raw will be out way before the subs (by usually by 10 to 18 hours) so you can have the episode ready.

Now, navigate to GG’s script directory right here. Download the script and place the RAW and the script in the same directory. Now rename both files to, for instance for episode 11, something along the lines of Code Geass Episode 11.ass and Code Geass Episode 11.avi. It doesn’t matter what you name them as long as the .ass and the .avi (the script and movie file) are named the same.

Open the movie and enjoy! If your raw is off by a few milliseconds or even one second you shouldn’t have a problem. If your raw has commercials or is off by a second then you’re going to have mistimed subs. This is the bad thing about this system. In this case I suggest rushing the bots before others do to grab the packed episode by GG, download GG via torrent, or learn how to retime the subs with ffdshow and all.

Hope this helps! For some episode spoilers click on past the jump.

The China arc is rushed and without proper translation I don’t know what the fuck. Anya at the end along with another knight of the round is in Ashford with Lelouch and the maid was indeed cosplaying as him. He does win a victory in the end by bringing out his own suit with a keyboard and all this other awesome shit. The politics of the situation are defined by the speaking, but there were some hardcore badass moments in the fight.

Next episode is a budget episode with
Cornelia returning.
It looks like vegapunk have released the latest episode of One Piece. I’m amazed at the quality of the release, considering it’s just amazing. I’m not a huge One Piece fan but I was awe struck at just how smooth it looked.

I’m looking forward to as more fansub groups warm up to releasing high-def anime. As for the episode? Bah, nothing much to talk about considering you’re only getting about 15-20 minutes of actual show in nowadays with them holding back before they run out of manga.

Free anime, or fansubs, have been around for a lengthy period of time. Even before the Internet there was college students utilizing their time to sub over VHS tapes with their broken Japanese to English translations. With the invent of the Internet, subs became more and more popular and anime was released quicker and quicker. Oh sure, maybe it took a month for an episode to get down after its release in Japan, but it was getting closer and closer as time came on.

Now, sub groups like dattebayo are able to get their anime out within 24 hours of release. That is translated, TIMED, quality checked, and released. Generally speaking, it’s normal for your average fansub group to get anime out within 3 days after its release in Japan.

Really though, should we expect this of all fansubbers? If you look at the process in which anime fansubing takes, you first have to obtain a high quality RAW from someone in Japan (usually someone who works for the group and lives in Japan). Then, they have to get someone to sit down and translate word for word what is going on. This process can be sped up with more translators.

Then comes the timing, after the entire process of translation (which in itself requires some quality checking). Someone has to time the translation to the screen and have the words come up long enough to be read but also go along with whats happening on the screen. Again, more people assigned to this the faster it goes.

Next comes the encoding. I don’t know much about this other then it involves a guy using some kind of computer to mux together the subs and the video and compress it without losing quality. THEN comes quality check (people watching it over and over for errors). After that, comes release.

Considering a lot of this sounds like horrible grueling work, I personally don’t think we should expect instant turn around on subs. Although I do feel that there is a certain amount of responsibility for sub groups to get things out in a timely manner. Apparently there is some kind of “FANSUB CODE OF HONOR” in which one fansub group can only sub one anime at a time and if another shows up on the scene they have to start from the beginning of the series. So, if you’re they are going to be slow, there better be a damn good reason.

I think, all in all, I have yet to feel angered with any fansub group. The fast subbers always pickup the popular series, although there are times where I could shake my fist into the air that Code Geass isn’t coming out fast enough.

Pizza Hut brain washing has taken effect.
