Jump Ultimate Stars Review

Jump Ultimate Stars is a game for the Nintendo DS developed by Ganbarion and published by Nintendo. It’s a fighting game similar to Super Smash Bros. Melee featuring a large amount of characters from Weekly Shonen Jump. It is a direct sequel to Jump Super Stars (ジャンプスーパースターズ). It is rated “C” on the CERO system. That is basically a PG13 or “15+” or “16+” on whatever system is being used.

The game, as mentioned earlier, features almost the full cast from Weekly Shonen Jump ranging from Naruto, Bleach, One Piece to Gintama and Dragonball Z. Each various series has a cast of characters that can be chosen to be played as either actual combatants, helpers (who come in, do something, leave), or as a form of a passive buff to one character or all. These characters are referenced as koma and come in those three types (battle koma (actual combatants), help koma (helpers), and support koma (passive buff).

These “koma” are laid out on a board and are arranged like pages of a manga. These are considered a “deck” or “panel”. You can choose different kinds or for some missions the game has a pre-set one already made for you. The fight plays out very Super Smash Bros. Melee like with you battling, using helpers, switching characters, and doing other things with the characters from Shonen Jump.

The game is completely awesome. For instance, you can be Goku. Fighting your enemies, you summon Light Yagami from Death Note. He writes their names down in his Death Note and they die 10 seconds later (we assume 45 in the game). Then, you switch Gintama. You hop on your scooter and dash into 3 enemies pushing 2 of them off the cliff. These enemies of course are Naruto, Luffy, and Vegeta.

This kind of gameplay is just amazing. For the DS that is. Each match usually lasts no more then 3 minutes so you can play, put down, pick up, play some more, put down. You don’t need to know much Japanese (but I urge an FAQ for assembling decks do you know what you’re doing). Doing Kenshin’s ultimate attack, followed by Goku’s Spirit Bomb, followed by some good ‘ol Death Note action is amazing.

If you can import and are even a remote fan of Shounen Jump I’d pick this up. If you don’t like Shounen Jump then I can understand skipping it. If you’re netural I would still say get it for the fun the fighting game presents however it’s way more enjoyable if you know a few of the characters (like Naruto and One Piece).

Upgrading your characters, unlocking new stages, and just battling will consume a ton of time. I think I’ve put about 5 hours into it and am at the second stage of worlds. Although I’m doing a lot of collecting and mission completing. There is just a lot to do.

It’s kinda expensive, ranging between 30 and 50 bucks imported. It’s also only for the Nintendo DS and not everyone has one of those (shame on you). You should get it though.

If I had a solid rating system, I’d say 5 out of 5 or 9 out of 10. It’s just a really solid game. Only thing lacking, of course, is the music. Totally not gar enough.

One Piece Episode 302 HD Review (Vegapunk)

One Piece episode 302 continues the very slow pacing that One Piece is also featuring, since it soon will be heading into filler land. Anyway, the episode is available over at Vegapunk (or Vegetapunk as some say). As always, if your computer can handle it GET THE HD version! One Piece is awesome in HD.

Going on with the review, I found this episode to be more of a tease then anything else. The Luff vs. Lucci fight won’t really ramp up until next episode and we had very little plot progression this episode. It wasn’t bad, necessarily, but it wasn’t the best One Piece has to offer.

The majority of the episode focused on setting up the events for the coming Luffy vs. Lucci fight along with showing off the tip of the Marine fighting power. Up until now the Marines have been a joke… however those who read the manga know that the buster call IS NOT A JOKE. The entire judicial island WILL be destroyed and they’re going to have to escape somehow.

That said, pretty good episode minus the slow pacing. Well, I mean, One Piece is short enough as it is… I guess. If you’re up to 302 episodes of One Piece then you’re of course going to pick it up anyway, so go enjoy.

One Piece 300 by Vegapunk

One Piece episode 300 finally ends the “Zoro Fight Arc”, one of the mini-arcs in the latest World Goverment arc. The fight between him and Kaku draws out and one of them ends the winner and the fight with Lucci finally begins with Luffy. The arc is drawing closer and closer to the end, it’s only a matter of time before this arc is resolved and we probably move into a 10 to 15 episode filler. Download Here.

I think that this episode was really good for One Piece’s 300th episode. You’ve got pretty much everything you need: passion, justice, and courage. The Zoro fight did not last as long as I wanted it to (Zoro is just so badass) but Zoro is such a badass he only needs a total of five minutes to defeat someone.

The Lucci vs. Luffy fight that is brewing should hopefully last multiple episodes, as he’s the “evil villian”. This will be a very good and interesting arc. Afterwards, I assume there will be about 15 more episodes of material and then another 15 episode filler arc followed by the after events. Then back to canon. Luckily One Piece is always been good with keeping fillers short, even after 300 episodes.

Oh well, happy 300th episode One Piece.

By the way, the sub group currently doing OP is “Vegapunk” not “Vegetapunk”.

Quiet Anime Time

Well, there hasn’t been anything new but One Piece which can be downloaded here.

I’ve done some thinking and episode reviews are not something I’m going to continue. I’m going back to the original idea of reviewing older series. Even though the two most popular pages on the site is “AIM Icons” and “Orange-kun”, so I’m probably going to expand those as well.

Been sort of busy the last few days with my Nintendo DS. Man, what a great system.

Anyway, the cliched catchphrase: look for some cool stuff soon, or by cool stuff I mean a ton of AIM icons of medium quality.

Vegetapunk Releases 720p One Piece (295 Download)

It looks like vegapunk have released the latest episode of One Piece. I’m amazed at the quality of the release, considering it’s just amazing. I’m not a huge One Piece fan but I was awe struck at just how smooth it looked.

I’m looking forward to as more fansub groups warm up to releasing high-def anime. As for the episode? Bah, nothing much to talk about considering you’re only getting about 15-20 minutes of actual show in nowadays with them holding back before they run out of manga.

One Piece 288 & Soukou no Strain 05

One Piece 288 was released by a relatively new group who did a decent job of it, I’m going to just say “go find it yourself”. It should be on datorrents or whatever. The reason is that when an anime group starts subbing in the middle of an anime, other groups get mad and drama comes and torrents get pulled or whatever. Anyway, it’s a decent episode but like One Piece always is… you can’t wait for the next.

Soukou no Strain (available from WinD fansubs, click the tag and you’ll see a link somewhere I think) had a serious lack of action episode. Next episode… maybe. This anime just doesn’t do drama without it seeming like Mai-Hime all over again. The action is amazing, but the drama is just so generic anime stuff…

One Piece 287
